Part of our top-tier care is in the patient comfort we provide before, during, and after surgery through our team of anesthesiologists. Our promise to every patient is to ensure their comfort, safety, and successful procedure.

Patient Comfort Is Our Primary Concern

Patients who choose to have elective surgery at our ambulatory care center have access to procedures that allow them to live longer, healthier lives. If you’ve chosen us for one of our many areas of expertise, such as neurosurgery, gynecological procedures, or plastic and reconstructive surgery, you can take comfort knowing that all anesthesia will be administered by our skilled staff to ensure you feel no pain or discomfort. Even before your operation, our anesthesiologists will begin an evaluation to determine a suitable anesthetic treatment by considering your medical history and the type of procedure you are undergoing.

Why Anesthesia?

Using anesthesia in surgical procedures allows our physicians to safely complete surgery without disruption while ensuring patients feel no pain or discomfort. Our doctors typically know the average time a surgery may take from years of experience and surgeries. However, others may be unpredictable. Our team of anesthesiologists remain with patients during surgery to continue administering anesthesia when necessary. They will also monitor your health during the process to ensure your safety.

What Are the Different Types of Anesthesia?

Surgical procedures have varying degrees of complexity and invasiveness. Every patient is unique and reacts to operations differently, requiring individual anesthetic plans. There are three types of anesthesia, and the kind a patient receives will depend on the procedure they are visiting us for and their level of comfort for being conscious during a surgery.

  • General Anesthesia – Patients under general anesthesia will be completely unconscious, preventing them from moving during an operation.
  • Regional Anesthesia –Patients remain conscious and only lose feeling in a portion of the body. Feeling loss is confined to the region of the body where the surgery is being performed, such as a knee or hip surgery.
  • Local Anesthesia – This is similar to regional anesthesia, but the area of the body that loses feeling is much smaller. A common use for a local anesthetic is for a skin biopsy or to stitch a deep cut.

Specialty Uses for Anesthesia

Anesthesia is used for a wide array of surgeries, from something as minor as filling a cavity in a tooth to a major procedure such as heart surgery. General and regional anesthesia must be administered by trained anesthetists, like the team at the Surgery Center of Fort Collins. Certain types of care require special training and our team is educated and experienced to administer medication related to:

  • Pediatric Anesthesia
